  1. Yep, good point Galen. Dollars pay the bills and sometimes the Taxman (landloard etc.) don't take marbles lol
  2. If we take the whole morality/ethical argument (and even marbles) out of the example, I could see somebody needing X amount of money quick and willing to make a deal quickly in order to meet their specific needs at the time. bills need to be paid etc Taking advantage of ignorance is wrong, but thinking broadly, there might be other reasons a seller would end an auction early (just saying)
  3. Might not be a popular viewpoint, but I've often thought that when it comes to a buyer and seller completing a transaction, whatever way works out amicably for both parties is their business and I would not get involved unless I were the buyer, or the seller. (I know I know, boo)
  4. They might have intended for the transparent bands to be opaque, but it's just the way they turned out. Here's an older pic I had that shows some transparency in the greens
  5. Hard to tell from the pics but might be a purple cork on a white /opalescent base which can sometimes appear to have a bit of blue. Like the one in my sig (although not a cork obviously)
  6. Nice alternating colors on the Latt and I see what you mean about the green band although I wouldn't have thought to compare it to a Lutz until you mentioned it. From what I've seen it isn't all that unusual for some bands to have a white edge on this type of marble but it sure looks nice and an indication that a bit more skill went into the construction
  7. lol , not quite close to 'splitting hairs' but getting there . (bad joke) 3o, out of curiosity are most of your peewee collection machine made or handmade?
  8. Surprised nobody's commented on the pics from the auction in OP? Is that green? or transparency from being backlit (and would it make any difference whether it is a wasp or black widow?) I'm Marble King illiterate
  9. Were the 'braaats' soaked in beer overnight? They are pretty good when boiled in beer then grilled. (personal taste I guess) I was down south this past week and did have some fried okra. And lots of other fried stuff.
  10. There is a pontil (square as it gets,) some seedy glass, Hey, as long as you like it is the important thing, right? Good luck with your marbles
  11. Would it be possible that some of the advertisements used 'stock' illustrations and were built to order ie: contact us with your current request and we'll make you something similar to what's shown. Yes it will be round and glass.
  12. For some reason I want to say the original post, left most one may be a bit older than the rest. The big red one in the same pic, so that's a blue base?
  13. I don't collect those but man, nice grouping
  14. Agreed that most would have ended up as Joseph coat style. Good examples Roger
  15. Interesting. there are other incredible single pontil marbles from earlier as well, but not often in that style I agree
  16. Those are some pretty unique examples, don't know how many others but I'd like to see them as well
  17. Makes you wonder if some of the larger German handmades were really intended to be used as marbles? I think around 1-1/4" was about as large as most American marbles were made
  18. Not so sure about that part, a lot of German marbles I've seen have a similar trait.
  19. You thinking a glass top? Throw some 'claw' feet on there and you'd be good to go. Nice find
  20. Agreed, there is something about this type that makes me wish there were more color combo's
  21. Small headed Elephant? Maybe a Lion? I doubt all the sculptors were 100% on anatomy (although surprisingly good most of the time)
  22. I get the tongue-in-cheek, but if you do have examples of NLR's that fit that description they sound interesting
