  1. Cool, I haven't seen too much info on these types, but seeing them beside each other in everybody's group shot, fills in some blanks. I might have a red one, have to take a closer look around in my "don't know what they are" pile. Which IS getting more organized with some of the info/help I've got on this board.
  2. Got around to taking a picture, I'm not sure on a couple of these, but they look nice together
  3. Seeing those kind of non-mainstream pelts is refreshing.
  4. I don't know a whole lot about bird cages and even less about authenticating old notes. I am suprised to see the quotation marks for emphasis in that era (I can be ignorant but curious). Heck, just speaking out loud
  5. Wow. I think there's a certain point where the descriptive part of a "name" doesn't help. Sometimes you actually need to see it to understand. Thanks for sharing those, most of which I think almost fit into their own category.
  6. Not much bigger than 1 1/4" but some of my fav patterns.
  7. If the sunshine (and warm weather) come around soon I hope to get some pretty good pics of (what I think is) a vitro that's had some action. Looks like green aventurine nail polish. Machine mades can be fun.
  8. Good question, maybe because some of their most "beautiful marbles" weren't run consistantly and just a coincidence of combo's and patterns between batches compared to the more mass produced ones that they did name? I suppose this could be said for most manufacturers since the patterns and combo's can vary so much (think 3-D). I especially like that 5th one down, but they're all sharp.
  9. I don't know much about machine mades, but the zigzag pattern of the "inserts" look more like a continuous folded strip of cardboard that an insert. Sorting the same patterned marbles by size would help, and would certainly be a lot more convincing. Looks good to me
  10. hard to say if the core was intentional or not but still a looker. That shade of pink outer bands is pretty unusual
  11. aventurine looks best outside in the sunshine. Cool marble
  12. I sure like the results, no complaints here. Makes a lot of sense to me.
  13. This is the one thbar's reminded me of when I first saw his pictures. I tried posting my pics a while back and couldn't get it to work till recently. Mine's a bit worn out but I think there are similarities in construction: the "corking" effect that isn't as defined on these (as it is on some of the more mainstream corkscrews) but still traceable. I could be way off, but just my opinion.
  14. So is it the striking color combo or the glass characteristics that makes them considered "submarine-ish"
  15. I've liked handmades since the first one I won in a marble game. One of the big appeals (for me) is how remarkable some of the intricate balanced patterns are that got turned out by hand, with basic tools, and not "mass produced" by machine. Yes I know some of the glass huts DID crank them out in great numbers but that makes it even cooler that they could make so many with the technology available at that time. As much as some machine-made fans claim to dislike "the name game", that's one of the topics that gets the most discussions on the board. Everybody likes controversy and let's face it, narrowing down which glass house made which handmade isn't nearly as interesting or controversial for some. IMHO I think most "nice" machine-mades are more of a quirk than anything... but don't get me wrong I've seen plenty of really beautiful machine mades with cool patterns and colors that would be impossible to make by hand. Different strokes for different folks... it's like comparing apples to oranges but as long as you like fruit, all's good.
  16. Ah, figured it out...this is the one I tried to post before. I think yours is a nice Akro. edit: still can't get pictures to post....
  17. Odd color combo, but looks worn. First time I saw it this came to mind. uhhh. still trying to post image
  18. Maybe it's my monitor settings but it looks like it could have a translucent base, some orange/brown/black...potential for some oxblood. It would look cool backlit.
  19. I'd say Akro. Reminds me of a carnelian (cornelian?) type. Very nice. I'm certainly not an expert ID'er but that's what my gut tells me.
  20. Is that "pop" from rice krispies?
  21. He who looks hardest for pigtails and butt cracks... is on a mission that I don't want to know about
  22. Looks a bit dirty, but it's orange. (it's cleaner now)
