  1. Ah, Richard ... I should have said "European machine-made" coz I surely didn't remember where it might have come from! Thanks, everyone!
  2. @winnie, do you recognize this. Is this a "wispler"?
  3. Steph

    Red slag.

Onyx originally meant slag to Akro, but around 1930 they switched their operations to making corkscrews, and they changed the Onyx name over to the corks. And you have one of their corks.
  4. Steph

    Red slag.

Oh yes! Akro Onyx corkscrew. Also called an Auger.
  5. Not a German handmade. Guess it could be a German machine-made if you're sure about it not fitting in your Master case.
  6. interesting .... such as https://www.nps.gov/hofu/learn/historyculture/hopewell-water-wheel.htm
  7. We did some of that in this thread: http://marbleconnection.com/topic/20318-marble-comparison-thread/ Anytime anyone wants to bump it with another example, that would be great.
  8. But Atmospheres were handmade and that sure does look like a machine-made style .... now I'm dithering ... but at least you have an interesting idea to consider.
  9. Atmosphere is an intriguing possibility. That would make some kind of sense. I was drawing a complete blank.
  10. Winnie, who lives in Amsterdam, found this article from 1959: http://marbleconnection.com/topic/15635-dutch-marbles-roll-over-the-globe/
  11. After many years of wondering, we found a source for those marbles. The European wirepulls were made at Veiligglas in Amsterdam.
  12. 1.63?? OMG. I'm going to move this to the main chat because I can! I want more eyes on this. So sparkler-like ... so big ... what could it be?!
  13. This might answer part of your question: http://marbleconnection.com/topic/22938-museum-news/
  14. I don't feel confident with handmade names, but I think you have it. German Banded Transparent I _think_ that's right.
  15. With that underlighting, "sunset" is an even more appropriate name. Nice effect.
  16. Nooooo ... the mib on the stand is from Lloyd's box. This was the beauty in question. It's on the small side, less than 5/8", and I have been informed that Honey Onxyes are usually larger. I had been unaware of that. I was 99% sure it wasn't a Honey Onyx, but I couldn't resist asking about it. Isn't it pretty!
  17. How large is the 2nd one? Not Vacor on 2nd one! My first thought was Master on the colors but the structure is more like a Sparkler. But the colors don't seem Akro. Could it be a European sparkler? For that matter, how large is the first one? Sometimes a larger marble will get that "orange peel" texture even if it is American made. What does it look like under a blacklight?
  18. Hi. Welcome. There are some Florida collectors. You might be able to find someone to help you out in person. But we'll do what we can long distance.
