  1. 3 dimensions! A 1 inch cube + a 1 inch cube is not a two inch cube. Two true 1 inch marbles added together and rounded into a sphere would give . . . uh, I'll be back. [space reserved. I get kinda panicky at this stage. ;-)] edit: Two true 1 inch marbles would give about 1.26 inches . . . (cube root of 2)
  2. Great find! I'd keep the mibs with the box if I were you. Er, um, I mean you'd keep the mibs with the box if you were me. uh, lol, I've never understood that saying. But kewl set of mibs!
  3. 1 and 1/2 total. One 7/8" marble. Plus one half of another one. Glue it on top. Then smooth it out so there aren't any visible seams. Make sure the glue has the same COE as the glass.
  4. I'm believing my figure of 2.37 three-fourths inch mibs to 1 one-inch mib. I find it kind of mind boggling though. Two 3/4" mibs fitting inside a 1" mib? Check out the 7/8 figure. (8x8x8)/(7x7x7) is about 1.49 So it would take half again as much glass to move up from a 7/8" mib to a 1" mib.
  5. 5/8 ---> . . . 512/125 = 4.096 3/4 ---> . . . 64/27 = approx 2.37 maybe.
  6. Which St. Clair was Bob talking about?
  7. I get exactly 8 one-half inch mibs to a single 1 inch mib. I think the right formula for how many smaller marbles match the 1" mib volume might be 1 divided by the cube of the smaller radius. But I haint double checked that. Edit: yup, pretty sure. The 4/3 pi stuff cancels out. Don't need to worry about any estimates of pi. Double edit: nope, I said that wrong. It was 1 divided by the cube of the smaller diameter.
  8. Not fair! Just born and his marble collection is already better than mine! lol Congrats Granddad!
  9. Fascinating that something that specific and that close to the source would be questionable. Seems like there must be some missing puzzle piece to explain why it was said. But of course I don't know what the missing piece could be.
  10. p.s., your pic turned out really nice. Whatever conditions you used, good job. Stay safe from the storm!
  11. Glass Addiction is where I'd go. http://www.glasswizards.yuku.com Not saying you don't already have good advice! lol. Some of the input here is from people who post there! So my comment was just for contemps in general.
  12. Here's a favorite of mine. One single six-vane cat's eye. But it was "messed up" in about three ways. Looks like about a dozen different cats depending on how you turn it. end view of same marble:
  13. Mike, another really good question/point. Problem with banning the name callers is that sometimes it seems like "everybody" does it. So ban everybody? Or some people don't do it directly, but do it subtly. So ban the people who are direct but let the clever semanticists keep on keeping on? And sometimes names seem justified! LOL But how to judge that? It's easier to let everyone keep playing, but to do it where the innocent bystanders and newbies don't get so distressed by it. Sorry I made the move without comment. I didn't want to seem like I was moving it because of any particular person's post. I set a time in my head and decided that I would move it at that time if the thread was still in name-calling mode when I returned. It was. I moved it. That's how that went down.
  14. If they can be found in Texas, you can do it. Go Speed Racer!
  15. I moved it. Guess I could have waited until someone came in and complained yet again about how this board is about nothing but fighting anymore. Mike's point (which I thought was clever actually) had been lost. I thought it a shame. However the thread was in name-calling mode. So I moved it.
  16. I used it most every day up until 3 days ago. Now my crops are withering in Farmville. Computer malfunction - can't get on FB! But I'll be back to plow them under and build anew. Someday.
  17. There might be some provenance attached to the ones which prompted my question today. But I don't know the specifics so can't elaborate.
  18. No trick question. I thought they were "rare". I know that doesn't always factor into value though.
  19. How much might a CAC collector pay for a Red Jenny? say at a show where they could see for themselves that it was a CAC. assume nice condition. thanks.
  20. Thanks for sharing this, and for the good work you do at your shelter.
  21. Jabos. Sometimes. [space reserved for examples] [have a sort of 'silver oxblood' pic - just need to put it here, and then Galen's ox pics would be good too]
  22. Gary, check out the pic m!b$ posted at the end of the last page. That was the one with the correct answers. iiuc. Sue, you got that right. Honesty sucks. Very dangerous. I wish I could comment there tho'. They have a couple of foreign mibs being sorta shot around and not ID-ed correctly right now. I'd like to comment on those. I'd try to be nice. Sorry that I suggested that Kevin take a flashlight to his first show. I didn't know that would be so offensive. Live and learn. BT, is your site gone? No, nevermind. I couldn't see it yesterday, but it's there today.
