  1. That's what I thought. I've been noticing a lot of marbles that I think are mislabeled, now that I've been doing more research. I still don't buy really expensive marbles because I'm still afraid of the possibility of purchasing a Vacor and paying Christensen Guinea prices. I'll wait for a marble show to spend on something more prized. Thanks!
  2. I love this starter. BTW Bonniemarbles, what a score!!!! What great marbles for your first jar! I would be overjoyed to get a jar like that today! I'm trying to think how my habit started. I never could get my shaky thumb to control the marbles much so I didn't really get into playing them. We did have a scotch bottle bag of marbles that I think my brother ended up playing with. I got my own bag of marbles in my thirties. Someone asked me if I wanted it and I said, "sure". I think it had clearies, cateyes, some vitros maybe, nothing fancy. I put them in a pop bottle as decoration. Maybe 20 years later (OMG, showing my age!) I was cleaning and they caught my eye again. Slowly I started picking up marbles online and at a local antique store. I'd pick up a couple here and a couple there. This year, my husband wondered how many I had. Bonniemarbles said she had counted hers, so I thought I'd do the same since I had time during the lockdown. I told my husband that I probably had about a couple hundred, three at the most. I gave up counting, but I have a couple hundred on a shelf and boxes in my closet, bagged individually and labeled as many as I could this Spring. My daughter's boyfriend says that it's better than having a drug habit. I approve of him. LOL.
  3. Oh, by the way, I was looking on eBay to get an idea of what different types of marbles look like and I came across one that looked like my first marble in the attached group photo. That marble was selling as a Christensen. Is it a possibility? I would have taken a screenshot of it, but wasn't too sure if that was "legal" or proper to do, so I didn't.
  4. Wow! So that must be what the ribbons are doing in those opaque Pelts! It's like an x-ray version! LOL! I didn't know they had clear ones like this. Thanks again!
  5. Nice scan, Steph! I will have to go back into my Vitros and unidentified marbles to see if I have any of those. So this "lavenderish" color could be an indicator of a possible Anacortes Vitro, it seems. Not the vibrant colors of the old Vitros, but still pretty nice. And, such a short period of time. Thanks!
  6. For number 1, I have something that looks kind of like that but with blue and browns. I think it was ID'ed as an alley. So I was thinking that this was close enough to be one, too. As for number 2, I was thinking Ravenswood also, but hesitated because I still can't wrap my brain around one quality that screams out "Ravenswood". When I think of Ravenswood, I think of ribbons that weave in and out like Alleys and Champions. This one has a ribbon that snakes back and forth "on the surface". I have more pics for number 3. There is a ribbon that looks like a vane on the inside. That was also a reason for leaning more "Vitro". The part that looks "peltish" is that ribbon on the outer edge that might be a vane that is dissolving. Thanks for your time Steph! I really appreciate your dedication to keeping us marble people engaged on "all things marble" and occasionally on feline friends!
  7. Thanks. I will have to read more about the history of Anacortes with marbles.
  8. Or, could they be Vitros? I was looking at some other posts and noticed that Vitros can have that same brushed look.
  9. Would love to get some feedback on these two marbles. The base is opaque and possibly black or purple. the veneer ribbon looks lavenderish and white. The ribbons look like the Master brushed patches, but the seams are just slightly curved which is why I'm thinking MK. Size is .61". Thank you.
  10. LOL! I knew you were complimenting BerryB! LOL! I was just loving my beaten up marble. HEE HEE!
  11. Just watched your video on Master Marbles. Well done! I got so much information from it. I especially appreciated you showing us some Akros and Imperials to compare. Thanks for sharing, Stephen!
  12. I actually purchased a Bogard catseye that looks similar to these, not too long ago. I LOVE bubbly marbles for some reason. I guess, when I was growing up we basically had foreign cateyes, and opaque Marble Kings, and clearies that had really tiny bubbles if any (we called them puries). So this is so novel to me.
  13. Nice find!! People tell me to take magnifying glasses and lights with me, but I kind of like gambling on a jar of cheap marbles to check out at home to see what I lucked out on. Sometimes the ones with the most dings are the most interesting in patterns and colors. Marbles are like cats, to me. They don't always need to be pedigree for me to love 'em. HAHAHA! The one that I've attached here looks like a picture that was crumpled. The other is one of the many fractures. I think it is a Vitro?
  14. I was looking at the pics again and notice that the lines I have are more like threads.
  15. Interesting. I have a few orange marbles that show these streaks. Interesting! Thanks for sharing Bonniemarbles!
  16. Wow! I love the CAC and the Aventurine marbles! It will be cool to see what you long time collectors consider your top 10! I will probably see marbles that I've never heard of again. Maybe I'll come up with my beginner's top 10. LOL!
  17. Hurray! I had a chance to hunt for some cheap marbles to practice identifying. I have an inkling as to what 4 out of 5 of them are. Any feedback would be great. 1. Alley? Opaque white base with slate blue, green, and orange (tracer?), possibly brown (or blending). .62" 2. Translucent white base with a translucent blue and syrupy tannish swirl (when I put a light to it, the tannish part looks yellowish). The swirl looks like a winding road or river. I can see bubbles where it is translucent so I'm wondering if maybe the white is not the base. .61". 3. Vitro odd cateye? At first I was thinking Peltier because of the off set ribbons, but the glass looked "vitro" clear. .60" 4. Vitro Superior? .64" 5. Vitro? .64". Thanks!!!
  18. Every time we see something that we used to have on eBay or at an antique shop, we always make comments like, "Wow! We should have kept that!" That is probably why people have so many beanie babies in storage, though I think it will take a century longer before those become valuable, if at all. Can you imagine if marbles were like that, where parents said, "No, you can't play with those because you'll damage them!" But, on the flip side of the coin, there were probably kids who probably stashed some away because they were too special to beat up. ๐Ÿ˜†
  19. Thanks for the "insider" information! I'll keep that in mind.๐Ÿ˜‰
