  1. Hello Art, No uv actually I lit it up from underneath so I'd have to say backlit with normal lighting, I've posted this marble many times and the consensus is being from the French drain, the olive base glass color is very similar to several marbles recovered from there. I knew it was Akro when I got it but the olive base glass threw me. Oxblood is on the surface, I though is was subsurface also but the ox does protrude a bit out from the base glass a bit in a couple areas, other than that a couple microscopic as made dimples, I can't even find a fleabite. I lit it up so the Akro construction was more visible, I thought it was a super muddy translucent for the longest time !! In hand the olive green color is very apparent when backlit. In regular lighting it appears to be a dark muddy base. I did try U.V. on it, very little to no reaction, maybe the muddy coloring, I haven't the slightest.
  2. An obscure Akro w/ Oxblood, believed to be from the "French Drain? I believe" Alan" was the one who pointed this out to me and caused further investigation, "Thank You Alan"
  3. I made a couple collages of some things I like to do, some of my "other interests" Marble related games : Mushroom photography, picking & buying : Fishing : I wanted to put some elk & deer hunting pix here but didn't want to gross anybody out.
  4. Not very good on Vitro I.D. but the ones with color only on the outside & transparent on the inside were called "Veneered" I believe Vitro was the first or the only manufacturer to use this method in production, from what I've read this really bolstered their sales. A link to Vitro history, production, types. I.D. etc... LINK : https://buymarbles.com/marblealan-vitro.html
  5. Prized indeed, I agree David, Glady's got a real keeper there, the blue Av. really makes for a nice marble
  6. The new "Guardian of the Mibs"
  7. I believe a silver surfer has to have ta transparent green base, Gladys mib has what appears to be an opaque white base, still a killer marble in anyone's book. I also consulted the book I bought from Sami Arim "Peltier Glass Toy Marbles" an American Legend, to make sure of the I.D. qualifiers for this particular Pelt. The transparent green base glass is present in every example shown. I would post the pix but not without permission from Sami first. Here is a link with a couple different links w/ pix of them, curtesy of AAM LINK : https://www.allaboutmarbles.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=40318&p=336772&hilit=silver+surfer#p336772 LINK : https://www.allaboutmarbles.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41493&p=306094&hilit=silver+surfer#p306094
  8. Boy do we need some of that, grounds so dry here it's like concrete, no normal at all, we usually have dry hot weather in August but it doesn't normally start in June, more like end of July, this is the PNW. Maybe I'll take some out on the dry dirt for a few rounds ??
  9. Killer Alley Gladys, man you got some nice ones, as said "Top Notch" for sure
  10. Looks & acts like oxblood "to me" the uv. test kinda gave it up, nice piece of cullet Joep

"I" see a Vitro cats eye in this pc, you can almost see the horseshoe shape
  12. Peltier Zebra, large over 11/16ths, loaded w/ blue av. Mmm Mm "nice one" Gladys
  13. I got my fingers crossed man, hopefully common sense will win out over the almighty dollar !!
  14. Yes, all Alley Coral
  15. I use a Sony camcorder & it has only auto so it jumps back & fort between the surface & the figure. most mibs you are concerned only with the outside condition but a sulphide not so. Air bubbles on the figure, detail etc. "Thanks for the input Bruce" guess maybe I need something maybe a bit more advanced than a camcorder ??
  16. Fantastic post great info !! Honest sharing of knowledge, I love it, this hobby is great !! No place I'd rather be (almost)
  17. Sorry no idea on the marble I.D. mibber, obviously a manufacture incident of some kind wherever it came from. I was trying to narrow it down but I am lost. Yes !! I have to agree with you on taking pix of clear transparent glass marbles. When I was taking pix of my sulphides it was almost impossible to get focus on the glass surface and the figure in the center, "two different objects at 2 different distances" so the camera wanted to focus on one or the other & went back & forth. By complete accident I took a few "freehand" shots of them in my other hand, I was astonished, not only the surface but the figures inside as well. I'll post a pic so you can see, if you've ever tried to photograph a sulphide you know my quandary. Macro of the surface, no problem. A luck shot of the barnyard pig with a non reflective gray background about 3 feet away, I was unprepared & upset when it showed so many reflections but the clarity was so good I decided to keep them, these handmades are very clean "not polished" all commons so I was really picky on the condition. I'm not really sure how I would do with showing any damage on a lesser specimen ?? I took at least 50 shots of different sulphides, different backgrounds, different colors and only kept 10 or 12 pix out of all of them. Marbles period are the hardest thing I've ever ran into to take pix of
  18. "I'm" seeing Veiligglas in this one Cats but they all look foreign, maybe EU ?? Regardless some nice mibs Chris, and some excellent pix , !!
