Ahh !! contact, my old friend has returned to the hideout, starting to look like my home these days, talk about a shut in nation, boy this pandemic thing really sucks 😠!! On a more positive note how's Tiny ?? Anymore growth yet, still hangin in there ? I can see his little head sticking out in the last pic you submitted. Hi Tiny maybe you can join me and bring a little ray of sunshine into this dark place ?? Getting hard for me to see !!

Yes, wow !! a whole new "light" X 2 not slags. "Thanks for the new pics" now closer to the true Identity, a lot less guessing, personally I never use a flash on marbles or glass, to much refraction and reflection, it doesn't bode well with my pictures. I always use at least a 5000 k 40-60 watt, eq. (13w) actual bulb to come as close to natural blue sunlight as possible and cut out all the yellows from a regular bulb or flash. I learned all my info between the two forums, fantastic tutorials. I take my pics then "review them before submission" to be sure I'm giving an accurate account of the natural visual appearance. 95% of making an accurate I.D. is in the photos, the other 5 % is the size and verbal description. I had the feeling it was a flash, "appreciate the extra effort", it certainly paid off in this case, quite the difference, agreed Ron it doesn't even look like the same 2 mibs. The bulbs will pay for themselves many times over, I only pay 5-8 $$ a bulb from any hardware or regular store like Walmart, these bulbs cast a blue spectrum like natural sunlight instead of the yellow as in a regular household bulb, I had to do a little experimentation with them and choosing a "neutral" light or dark background color depending on the color and or transparency of the glass in the mib. Review of my pics is a personal must, alot of the time I think I've taken a killer pic, the upon review "not so good" but improving all the time. Many thanks to all the people who took the time to leave the tutorials and information, we are after all here to help one another. Good luck thanks for the submissions, have fun and stay safe. Chad G.

Maybe the light bulb also playing into it, there is excessive wading and the white isn't as bright as it should be which I attributed to the "lighting" hard for me to judge also Ron, but yes could be swirls. When I look and have to second guess it does leave some question as to the I.D.

Yes Bruce !! Personally I like your avatar, you won't find another like it, the way it looks is why you picked it in the first place. I love the ying- yang pattern, especially on some of my larger pelts it actually increased the value because of the outstanding pattern it ended up making. Some people like it some don't (all perspective) just like everything else. If they all looked like that the value increase would be notta. Here is a pic of a metalic (rare) opalescent (rare) Heaton I found in the dug mibs I purchased, looks something like yours. The pics leave something to be desired but it has the little tadpole looking metalic swirl going into the mib and the tail coming out the backside following the flow of the glass, I got lucky on this one, a couple fleas but I'm keepin it, the rest of the Heatons are under multiple feet of dirt, gravel and by now perhaps concrete or pavement.

Not Pelt just a swirl, I.D. ing takes a long time, I make mistakes, but try to stay out of it if I don't know, the last thing I want to do is mislead someone. I.D.'s change as proper provenance comes along and is proven also, so an everchanging hobby, hang in there Birdman. Someone else will chime in with the correct manufacturer for you. I won't make a guess as to the manufacturer of this one but I can say with some confidence, not a pelt.
-
Not Akro, not a corkscrew, nor is it a transitional, I Have well over 20 Heaton from the dig and some Peltier that look just like this. Machine made and as they all sometimes do has the "ying -yang" pattern. I'm not saying this a Heaton, there are Pelts, Heaton, Champion on down the line probably every manufacturer had some that ended up with this pattern. A few pix of some Heaton I have that spilled off the rollers with this same ying-yang pattern. First pic is a Heaton robins egg, the ying-yang is apparent in the first mib with the second being normal. The next pic of 3 are in order from L to R Heaton volcano, Heaton robins egg, transparent blue base not named Heaton, these are all defective (culls)That's the reason they where in the cull pile "dug marbles" the one you have whether dug or not is a cull, a misshapen mistake out of the machine. I can't guess on the manufacturer of yours' just an opaque that came out screwed up.

x 2, I agree with you Steph, Akro slags

Perfect timing Steph, reminds me of all the good care free times I had as a kid, something we all need "right now" is a little sunshine in our lives " Thanks so much for bumping the post" Made my day a little brighter I enjoyed every post you did "immensely"

"Nice bunch of mibs man" Pelt or not Which are the confusing ones?? Second pic, a few in the front look as if they may be Kokomo, just guessing, I'm not sure either

Just like a downhome old fashioned marble Christmas year round, I made like 8 of them, a use for those gigantic Germans besides sitting there collecting dust. "Thanks Tommy" gotta stay busy, from the looks of my house I been a bit to busy.

Yes, 7 posts back I had already included the application for and date of actual registration of the trademark along with the from & to years of operation, I neglected to post the 1914 incorporation date, excuse.
-
Yes Hansel, I found the 1911 date and exact day applied for and the day the US govt. granted Akro rights to the trademark from the National marble Museum, Museum of American Glass in West Virginias archives, That's where I read the patented info I couldn't copy or post. Still confusing why they wouldn't insist on stamping that 1931 logo with their trademarked crow on the ad?? Well established and reputable, highly recognizable, especially when everyone was scraping for change during the depression. Well I'm learning alot of history and provenance along the way, always had a general idea but now nailed it down to the day. "Thanks for the post Hansel" Great piece of provenance you have there !! Good luck on the ad, I'm still digging also, hopefully one of us, or someone will come up with some form of answer.

Thanks Tommy !! We'll wait and see who thinks what ??

A Little Collection of D. Ferguson Contemps
Chad G. replied to rockgardenplants's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Thanks!! I gotta get me some eggs and a vortex or two from Ferguson, i like to stare down into them, I think it's incredible how they do that. -
I just started to get back to corks, lookin for the rarer colors like the royal blue I got yesterday, a beautiful mib as all Akros are, collecting seems to come in stages "sometimes"
-
I just got a 3/4 royal blue like your 4th mib yesterday, great mibs Bruce "Thanks for the pix " I couldn't find a pic of the royal blue but you have it's brother.
-
Maybe a nice pic of the area in question would clear this one up. Tommy if you could get a nice clear shot like the one of the other side it would be greatly appreciated.

x 2, Agreed, egg yolk ox. definitely not a popeye, no whispy white stranding, a qualifier for a popeye. A close up of the white stranding in a popeye, always suspended in a "clear base" glass matrix. Though many consider these UV. corks pop eyes the stranding is not white, therefore not a popeye a special. The whispy "white" strands are a requirement for it to be a popeye. I have seen Popeyes with uv. and the white stranding riding along side it in the clear base glass, a "hybrid" popeye. Many will argue the point but the base requirement of a popeye is the whispy white strands and a clear base.

Looks kinda like a rainbow on one side and MCS on the other, odd's the word, good one Ric.

" HAPPY AKRO FRIDAY " WOW !! Friday came fast. Just yesterday I acquired, a deep royal blue base with reddish orange corking color, an orange ringer a few unusual pelt rainbows and a 25/32nds killer wet red slag, wildest pattern I've ever seen on a slag. It is uv. but doesn't display any CAC characteristics, a puzzle but a very nice mib. I haven't even taken pix yet so a few to look @ while we wait.

A Little Collection of D. Ferguson Contemps
Chad G. replied to rockgardenplants's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
This is my first contemp and favorite Ferguson. Also some Salazar, Gibson, Sweet and a tiger by McCullough. I just got some hot house glass and some Geoffrey Beetem. I'll take pix as soon as they get here, I have a 42 place wall display to fill with 1.45 to 1.59 mibs, thus far 7 so a ways to go. The alien egg was my first contemp & I'm gaining interest in some of his vortex mibs also. " Nice egg collection man " Just found one of the Hot House mib 1.53" I traded a friend for a few 5/8ths doubles I had, I like the Av. in it. My first and biggest Salazar I found in a jar of cats at a yard sale, the other I bought with another angelfish and a moon & stars from Dave at the Seattle show. -
The amber mib appears to be just a clearie with a chip or hit, looks like the glass is missing, sometimes the glass remains and you get a moon or fingernail reflection, the others are just cats, the protruding spot on the cat is a manufacture defect, no handmades, all machine made. No foreign, even the cats look American or maybe Japanese. Thanks for the post Tommy !!
