  1. #1,2,3 Alleys are all killers, thanks Ron, man I love Alley, way, way, way underrated. I'm starting to enjoy Jabo also, now that someone has introduced me to them. I think maybe the plot is thickening. My Father told me when I was a little tike " the only dumb question is the one you don't ask" I'm here to learn same as you, everyone here has been more than accommodating and understanding to me, no matter how dumb I thought the question. Even going out of their way to help out. You are "welcome" here my friend . Your questions are appreciated as well.
  2. I believe they still have a couple thousand items but you have to Email and ask, They had so much stuff last year when I was Browsing the store it took me almost 3 hrs. to take a "quick" look at everything. I've bought quite a few things there, and they've been at the same site for must be around at least 20 yrs or better. Best place I've ever seen for Akro anything. I can't believe that's all that's left, they just quit listing so much because of the covid, 4000 is a load of items to browse, I've done it, yes a great site
  3. Sweet memories Ron, I know I really scored on most of mine, people simply don't have any idea what it is. The ashtray sets and thumb pots were where I got my big start on it I still hold the thumb pots and ash tray sets as #1 next come the tooth pics and then the rarer colored stuff of any size, pumpkin, amethyst, 2 & 3 color mixes (ox., av. and blue or red all on one piece) some very beautiful, quality made stuff. I traded off a lot of lemonade and oxblood pieces for mibs. Try to find them now !! only one place I know of and they're not cheap, Any one interested here's the link to the best Akro store I know of. Before covid came around at any given time 2 to 3000 pieces at this site, just like marbles everything is getting very hard to find. As a matter of fact this is the last place I seen one of those lighters like Ron has at. OOp, I just looked they have a commemorative Zippo Akro lighter, 2008, 12 years newer but still probably the only one like that you'll find. There were 3 made for the Akro Agate Collectors club, 1994, 1995 and 2008. There are 2, 2008 left at this point. They show the full set including the one from 1995 Ron has, they used to have them all. I'll put the pic in here also. I haven't been here in a while, man a mere pittance of what used to be here only a year ago !! By the By Ron, I started the Akro ware thing on purpose just to get some more pics from yours, Great collection, never get tired of seeing it. 4. Mine too Ric, the two cups where thrift store finds, I think I paid $5.00 for the whole oxblood tea set, plates cups, saucers, creamer, truly they had no idea of what they had. And the pumpkin came with 2 cups 2 saucers and 2 plates stuffed into a regular sized tea set also $5.00, I sold the regular tea set for $20.00 and kept the 6 Akro pieces. Two good outcomes for me, almost everything else I paid full boat for. Consequences of the bug bite I received over half a lifetime ago, one that still itches.
  5. Wish I still had the stuff before my divorce, Ahh well it's twice as much fun trying to track it all down again, Right ?? "Thanks Ric" the first piece of Akro I ever seen was an oxblood laden short tabbed ashtray, Akro already had me right there. 99 % of the heavy laden ox. or av. or rare colors like my fav. amethyst, black etc.. are almost unatainable any more. When you do see a good piece there is no way I would ever pay the kind of money their asking. I'll be content with a good picture in that case, I'm a collector but I'm not crazy, gonna keep it fun. Ron has the killer stuff like everyone used to have 20 yrs ago, it was easy to find then, some beautiful stuff, and surprisingly resilient for the size and being made of glass, I've dropped more than one piece, not that they all survived but most did !!
  6. A first for me " Great mib Jess " nice pix, your little lens is working out "fantastically" What a bargain, it paid for itself the very first pic you took !!
  7. "Thanks Bee" for the excellent post and research, a good thing to remember what type of cloth we have been cut from. That's some good stumblin, I believe I've heard it explained " There are no coincidences " a very convenient happenstance !! Hold on tight Harold. 😵
  8. ( #1 ) messed up Alley coral, ( #2) looks mighty bright to be Heaton so batch glass from "Ravenswood", ( #3) "Heaton" aaand ( #4) maybe a messed up Akro patch, I see remnants of a seam on the end there ??? You know these are all guesses Bill figured I might as well take a stab, "nothing ventured, nothing gained" Ugh!! I need to watch the video again, I got the Ravenswood batch glass messed up and miss I.D. just like in the video !!! I'm outa here before Bill gets his squad out after me
  9. " HAPPY AKRO FRIDAY " ( mibs ) Phew !! there I'm done for a little while anyway.
  10. "Akro" wish I had that lighter Ron has also. I had two chances at getting one on the cheap in the mid 90's but passed figuring I could get one at any time Oop's, "HAPPY AKRO FRIDAY"
  11. I don't know if I would call yours electric Bruce but it certainly is bright, maybe different lighting or background would give a different perspective, in either case a very nice mib
  12. Electric orange, pics from " Cat eye 1212 Lees legendary marbles store" another Christensen shown w/ & w/o flash.
  13. The depressions in the last 2 pics are what appear to be called "dimples" Caused from a subsurface trapped air bubble that has collapsed inward on itself while the glass was still hot leaving a "smooth edged" depression in the surface of glass on the marble." A dimple "
  14. I think maybe dirty rollers or the glass being a little to cold !! I would tend to lean on the cool glass, thinking in terms of a cold roll, "just my opinion" Jess I may be totally off on this one.
  15. A Christensen electric yellow single seam slag, much brighter than Akro or any other companies slag. Almost neon when held in hand.
  16. One of the best examples of electric colors I've ever seen a rare Christensen green based transparent submarine, not my marble but a friends way out of my price range, still one of if not the best I've ever seen. He sold this mib some time ago for $2500.00, now you couldn't probably touch it for $3000.00 to $4000.00 or more, immaculate shape, no fleas, asmades nothing, for a marble of it's age and type VVVHTF. An oversize Chrissy @ 21/32nds, This is about as electric and exotic as you can get. I see marbles like this in my dreams, I don't usually like Christensen but in this case I make an exception.
  17. I just traded and sold the last of my Christensen's, but here is a picture of a Christensen striped opaque my friend Terry has, As you can see the yellow is extremely vibrant, this is the definition of an electric color, batch glass, pure color, still yours is a "nice marble Bruce" I have a great number of slags, love em, none of them Christensen, I sold, traded or gave all my Christensen away. .
  18. Electric colors are shades of a certain color that pop out at you more than normal. A regular shade of orange will be indistinguishable from a bunch of mibs the same color or shade, throw an electric orange one in a group of a hundred and you can pick it out in a second. Most electric colors are from batch glass, a purer form of making marble glass instead of running one color on top of the other and mixing them. Christensen was well known for it's electric colors, google some pix of Christensen electric slags or striped opaque's and you'll see what I mean. They where far and above in their glass quality and recipes for color. A few other companies made batch glass also but competition was frowned upon. A very competitive market in the day. You'll have to do a little digging but will quickly pick up on the difference, I wondered the same thing years ago when I heard of "electric colors" I believe "Ravenswood" also made some batch glass or so I've "recently" learned. Chad G.
  19. I received two marbles in the mail today from a very good friend, lost in the mail and late on top of that. No money involved just sharing the Friendship we have with each other. Though separated by thousands of miles an ocean and half a continent we have come together, two like minded people to share in the great hobby of marble collecting. Never met and probably never will until we all do someday, but still the best of friends. I can't express what I felt when I opened the package today, the value of the marbles is of no consequence, it's the fact of being a gift from someone I've never met. Where else but here, great friends, great fun, sometimes we don't agree but agree to disagree until proven otherwise. I am truly grateful to all my marble Brothers and Sisters, and for the friendships I have, and continue to build here. A great place to be Chad G.
  20. I hope it helps you out Bonnie !! Being reflective, made of glass and round a marble is probably the hardest thing I've ever photographed, but I am improving after many many attempts and some good advice I have improved and still getting better.
  21. I know you like the akro's w/ black in them Jess, a good example Ron has above, I'm playin catchup but have a long ways to go. Here's another special I just got with black, yellow and kind of a custard base to it. By the way Ron thems some "killer limeades" they're gettin to be pretty scarce now a day's especially with any appreciable amount of ox in em like those.
  22. Yes it's black av. Bruce, like the blue and white Alley swirl I have pictured above, mostly black w/ some silver here and there. The mib you have is a very nice example of black av. Also comes in blue, silver, red, green and a few other variations, "from what I gather" the higher the temp the smaller and darker the av. particles become. I may be off a little but the av. in your mib is perfectly normal. Many of my Alleys have Black av. mixed with a little silver or green, I like the way it gives things in the marble an outline. Your marble isn't inferior but an excellent example of black av., a "keeper" Hopefully this helped you a little bit Bruce. Chad
  23. It appears you need a macro lens to bring your pix into focus Bonnie, if you are using your cell Jess just bought a really good clip on for her phone, the post is on "General marble glass chat" under "new macro lens " I hope this helps you out !! Chad
