  1. Now those are unique - nothing like the other runs!
  2. The WVMCC Show at Mineral Wells is May 14th. I think the Cairo show is within a week of this one.
  3. Yup, that was great to hear! One of the few times that marbles are mentioned with regards to collegiate sports - go Aggies (both marbles & A&M!!!)
  4. Ahhh, good idea. And, that reminds me of the marbles made from glass that Pete sold that were irradiated at Hanford.
  5. I'd be very surprised if Vacor (or Selectas Fabricas) would do something like that. They are very protective of their marble making plant in Guadalajara. It took a local connection and approval from the main boss there before my wife and I were able to tour the plant a year and a half ago. They were very concerned about spies, their processes, etc. No cameras or cellphones were allowed, etc. Of course, there are other marble making plants in Mexico so maybe some of them would be willing for the $$$. However, in answering the question, the only way it would make sense to me is if Jabo was not willing to allow the groups to do that anymore and they had to find another place. My suggestion is to let Steve Sturtz buy Jabo with all the money he has and then let the groups go forward.
  6. Also, don't plan on just going to the show on Saturday. The best way to learn, and have a lot of fun, is to come a day or two before at the hotel and get involved with the "in room trafing" part of the event. Collectors leave their doors open when they want visitors and you can go from room to room asking questions, getting ID's, looking at great marbles, buying, selling and trading or just good old visiting with a great bunch of people. Look forward to meeting you.
  7. I'll have to compare those to the ones I got when visiting Jabo just before the WVMCC Parkersburg Show that spring. I even got some 'special' ones from that run from Dave (and some peewees, too).
  8. Of course I don't know who Steve was calling "old" - maybe D.M.? But, there are a couple other birthdays - one on Wed. (Smitty turning a 'big' #) and one on Thur. - Ric just getting a little older. Happy birthday to all!
  9. Neat - great experience for Joseph (and grandmother...)
  10. I agree - first pic posted is basic Peltier Rainbo - no name.
  11. I have a couple patches like that. When backlit, they have various amber base glass. I don't think these are what the chocolate oxblood are. The only pics that I have are ones that Bo posted back in 2001. Here they are.
  12. I like the European swirls, too! Great timing for you Mike!
  13. I met him at the Parkersburg Show some years ago. He did a great service to the hobby by writing the various books and helping people get interested in marbles. My condolences to his family.
  14. I recently got 20+ of those bags from eBay lot. All have similar type of shooter in each one. Marbles all appear to be Ravenswood. Some have one or two the brown-green and brown-blue swirls that are the more sought after ones.
  15. Good info. I wonder if the Norman Rockwell Museum got some for free...?
  16. Smitty put in this sentence in the other Canton Show report about 3 pages downL The summer show is August 13th and should be an awesome turnout.
  17. Neat marble and thanks for the info. I don't collect handmades and don't recall seeing pics of a Chevron before (thought it was a particular additive in gasoline - LOL!).
  18. I'll be there late Wednesday afternoon. Looking forward to it. Just gotta figure out what to bring in my carry-on (limited space)... Hope someone has some marble packaging there - bags, etc.
  19. Happy birthday Windy and also a Happy Birthday to Brian Graham!
  20. From a $ value on the marbles themselves, I have no idea. From a finding them standpoint, I obviouly find far fewer of the Wales bags with the Conqueror lookalikes than I do Vitro bags with Conquerors. So, at least from that standpoint, that would make me think that the individual Wales marbles might be a little more valuable. Here are pics of a couple of the Wales bags for people that are not familiar with them.
  21. Are you talking about a bag of Wales marbles? There are many different style bags with different marbles in them, like basic cat's-eyes, 3 way crossthru cat's-eyes or the variegated (as they spell it) or the ones that look like Vitro Conquerors. Or are you talking about a single marble, like the Vitro lookalikes?
