You may want to send them to someone like Marblealan that you could trust for assesment. They could be fake or altered or wanderful examples. Don't take chances. They are though to tell from the pictures. Sami

Galen, bring some trade material to Dec 4 swap meet. I'll have few sweet examples with cutlines. Sami -

Missing Link Slags, Please Advise
machinemades replied to BuckEye 's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Craig, I am pretty sure they are MFC oxblood slags. I just came across some green examples. Very nice find specially if they are mint. Sami -

Made A Few Marble This Week .....
machinemades replied to B.T.'s topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Bill, did you sign those marbles? They look awefully close to vintage marbles. Just kidding! Very nice original designs on those. Sami -
Welcome to the job Dave! I think you will do great. I hope Sue will stay around and give her opinion as needed as well. A senior moderator. A little bit of argument and controversy could be fun too if it stays civil. Just keep it above the belt. Sami

Translucent Agates are common, most of the time part of the marble. Sometimes only bands are translucent. I also have translucent handcut Onyx. Handcut Jasper I just found a few weeks ago is totaly opaque. Sami

Peltier And 'the Men From The Boys'
machinemades replied to Speed Racer's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I said two ribbons as typically 3 color NLRs having one base color, 2 ribbons with second color and 4 ribbons with the third color. Mibs' marble would also be a Superman although there is a single yellow ribbon and rest are blended. Very nice example by the way. Sami -
Peltier And 'the Men From The Boys'
machinemades replied to Speed Racer's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Roger, If there is 3 colors with 2 definite yellow ribbons, it is a Superman. The key color is not red or orange IMO. If you have yellow, the blends will only make it a hybrid Superman. Any other 2 color combination will be a Superboy or a Spiderman. Sami -
Just saw them in Seattle when they stopped for a short break and visited few collectors. It is a very sad day. My condolences goes to the family. Sami

Calcareous Stone Marbles: Newbie Needs Help!
machinemades replied to JayC's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Jay, I am assuming you have antique faceted Agates, here are few clues regarding values. Starting with typical 5/8" carnelian agate (reddish brown color) most common type as agate marble, the value for a mint example would be $5 to $10. Condition is very important for these type of marbles. From there on, larger marbles have higher values. Bigger is better. Richer colors have higher values. Banded agates have higher values. More bands with strong design will have higher values. Dyed agates have higher values. Banded, dyed agates go higher. Richer the color and design, higher the value. I recommend Bob Blocks book as good source for a starting point to estimate values. I find marbles at antique shops all the time that I am not familiar with and find Blocks book a good source to have an idea for what I have. I hope this helps. Sami -
I agree with what Clyde said. I am not sure if it is a standart production marble or just a one off with color mixing to become green. It is a rare Pelt. Sami

I would love to go to Amana this year and will try my best Bill. It looks negative at the moment as I will be too busy in June. Sami

It Seems Jabo Makes Marbles!!
machinemades replied to marbleus1's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Edna, It would be a great service for us if you put a post covering all Jabo special runs. I am interested to put a collection of an example of all different color combinations. It feels like a long road to me at the moment. Sami -
Fantastic display. Thanks Bill! Sami

Could they be Mellonballs? Sami

David, You asked for examples and Galen posted some. Why not try to enlighted us with your knowledge instead of being sarcastic and totaly useless? Sami

Sorry to hear that Chuck. My condolences to you and your family. Sami

New Marbles Listed As Vintage
machinemades replied to lstmmrbls's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
It does not bother me too much seeing bunch of new marbles listed under vintage category, but I would prefer them to be listed where they belong. If I want to buy some new marbles, I'll just go to modern category and do that. No magic there. The only reason I can think of why sellers listing new Jabos or any new marbles under vintage category is probably hoping some casual surfer to find a marble they like and buy. That may have a negative impact too though. How about contamporary collectors, that have a better chance to buy these, never see them since they are in the vintage category. My point is, if these marbles are listed where they belong, they ultimately may bring most of their value. Sami -
Another Great Collector Gone.......
machinemades replied to zaboo's topic in Marble Friends Memorial
Very sorry to hear that. Dave was a great guy. My condolences to his family. Sami -
I didn't see the sulphide in hand, but I am sure after rework, it must have lost the natural as made flow on the glass surface it would have when it was first made. A pontil on an antique handmade, specially a wonderfully ground pontil, is a very desirable future. However, it is ultimately a flow that old craftsmen could not avoid. Contemporary masters do their best to produce perfect marbles today. That is exactly why it would be wrong to try to place a pontil back on a reworked sulphide. I can't think of a reason other than trying to deceive a potential buyer. Sami

Sue, I don't mean to speak for Rich and he proved his ability to restore a truly hopeless old marble, but it would be the wrong direction to try to place the pontil back on that marble. Would it be even possible? Sami
