    Phew !!

I was a Machinist Mate in the Navy, worked in a 125 deg. nuclear engine room (when it was ventilated) so was a fully trained fireman when I was 17, well acquainted with heat, 39 years ago when I was a kid. The only other fire experience was slash burning, putting out the burn, digging fire trails & catching the fires when they jumped the lines, mop up etc.. so yes backbreaking work but when your young and full of vinegar !!"I been prayin & doin the rain dance, supposed to get the onshore flow of cool 85 deg. wind going tonight so a welcome breeze, 4th of July comin up and all those fireworks doesn't bode well for firefighters. One of 2 things when I was a kid, join the Navy or be a jumper, So I guess I got a bit of both ??
  5. My condolences to her family & everyone who knew her.

    Phew !!

Definitely not used to this. I live in the Pacific Northwest because I like the cooler temps and yes !! the rain. At only 48 miles from the west coast I never thought I'd see temps over 110 degrees but at 112 yesterday and a forecasted 114 today my AC is and has been on and still average 85 in the house in a cloud of air that's bee circulated and recircuited through the house. A big break on the way tonight, maybe down to 70 tonight (I hope) that's almost a 45 degree drop

  13. 'yes" looks like av. for sure on both !!
  14. The marble has been spot buffed & or polished with residual damage, looks like they had to stop or wipe out the marble completely
  15. This is probably the end you're thinking of ?? It looks like what's left of a ground or faceted pontil after polishing, very shiny clean and smooth around the pontil, I can see your reflection on the left. Sure wish I had it in my hands I could tell ya for sure in one second what if anything has been done to it. Look for some tool marks somewhere on the rest of the surface, if you can't find any going round & round at all & the surface is perfectly smooth I would say polished for sure. I'm somewhat baffled, it appears to be an original surface on the right hand side ?? Also clean around the pontils like it was hand buffed, but only at the pontils, the rest of the surface appears cloudy, looks like pocket wear??
  16. Looks polished with remnants of pontils, the rets of the surface of the marble if polished is most likely very smooth, clean with no residual tool marks. The yellow latt, looks like it hasn't been touched, very good shape.

    Bless you

"Yesir" 100% genuine, one of the older pieces, though they still make cups similar to that one, called "ash ware" I have some incent burners that are the exact same color, kind of an off white with reddish sandy looking swirls running through it. Also some oil laps that are actual glass made from the ash also. I'll get some pics and post em a bit later.
  18. Chad G.

    Bless you

"Yes" there's loads of it around here, I collect it, it's glass made of ash from the May 1980 eruption of the Mountain. We watched it erupt from our backyard, Mt. St. Helens is only 50 miles away so it was just like watching T.V. The beach along the Columbia River where I Salmon fish is about half Mt. St. Helens ash still, it'll probably be washing down the river from the Cowlitz for the next couple hundred years. The Cowlitz is fed by Glaciers stemming from Mt. St. Helens so is continually flushing ash down into the Columbia, I think I have a pic of the headwaters of the Cowlitz at the base of the Mountain. The headwaters of the Cowlitz can be seen running through the middle of this pic. The ash is way over a hundred feet deep in places. That's what you see the river cutting through in the first pic is all ash. That canyon is several miles away as is the mountain. The greenery you see in the bottom of the first picture isn't shrubs it's trees. The bottom picture shows me standing at the top & the water flowing through the rocks, that's no sand it's all volcanic ash, this river used to be solid river rock & bedrock, no sand, now that's basically all there is " Volcanic ash" Another pic of the Cowlitz running through the ash, those fir trees in the bottom of the canyon are 40 years old so not small. Hard to get a perspective of just haw far away this actually is just from a picture.
  19. Whadya mean I can't dig here ?? Your yard what ??................. ( Great pix & great memories Bill !! )

    ID Inky?

Maybe ask Jason (bumblebee) ?? He's the Admin & probably knows more about how it works ?? The new system appears automated to me ??
  21. Chad G.

    ID Inky?

The badge system is all new to me as well Rick ?? Just here to learn & share !!
  22. Chad G.

    ID Inky?

Well it is translucent & does have a hint of the yellowish base glass as Ric said, so I'd say yes to it being an inky, on the "border" but still has the qualifiers to be one.
  23. You can stage a "Grand Reopening" before you move 🤣 Good way to keep em in play right up to the last minute !!
