  1. Based on the translucency I'd guess Alley. And yes sometimes a fold/pattern can look like a turkey head, and sometimes it's the color combo that leans towards a certain manufacturer. Not a cut and dry ID unfortunately
  2. It must be the $12.50 shipping, what a bargain!
  3. I've found this forum and knowledge from other seasoned collectors as being helpful. Completed auctions on eBay can give an idea of what somebody paid, but values are soooo subjective. For example, without seeing the marbles in hand, or else a bunch of highly detailed pictures, some people might consider those above marbles to be contemporary and not value them nearly as high as a vintage marble (not saying that's the case here). Marble shows are a good place to get input. Show them to a couple people and see what they say. In my opinion this community is pretty close-knit and a consensus might be reached in terms of rarity/value.
  4. My 2 cents worth, is they look a lot more like twisted up Marble Kings than Alley. Seems to be a lot more distinct separation between the red/green/yellow/blue and white. But I think that's what you're getting at ...glass recipes vs machine they were made on.
  5. Out of the 3 batches pictured, I'd say the majority of non-vintage marbles are in the third batch
  6. LindPW, can't fault your pictures, focus/camera looks better than I can dig up with my 5MP
  7. Here are some larger handmades, no outer decoration or banding, which are sometimes referred to as 'naked solid cores'. I'd consider "naked" latts to be less common
  8. #3, I agree #6, I'd go with Alley based on the tone of blue, but hard to say #7, Steph might have nailed it, although I wouldn't have guessed that from the first pic #9, most likely a CAC, and even the 'elusive' turkey from the second angle Nice group overall!
  9. Nice! I remember seeing one a while back but missed out. Wanted to get a yellow one too. Ended up finding a white Latt with a few fine outer yellow bands but that's as close as I've come (the yellow bands only cover ~2/3 so it looks kind of naked from the right angle)
  10. hmm... is Master a possibility? (re: the wispy white) Kind of hard to tell what's going on with that thing. What's the size?
  11. look at the size of the Mica in the green one. Interesting grab bag, 5 total? What'd the rest look like?
  12. I'd go with Pelt. First view had me thinking Alley as a possibility with those flame tips (moreso than feathering). Pic #2 I could see how CAC could be a guess based on the cutline(fold), but based on the the aqua color and bubble pops I'll stick with Pelt. Haven't seen CAC or Alley with this this color aqua.
  13. bubbles and cut lines make me think Peltier related. Is that a white patch at one end? Hard to tell. Same with the darker striations, brown or red? Just curious. Nice marble. Can't say I've seen one quite like what the pictures show
  14. So nobody else thinks that looks like a pontil (or cutoff) on William's marble? Years ago I picked up a white and blue one similar to this (with a busier pattern) and after seeing it inhand figured it was Chinese or Bulgarian. I'm pretty sure it was handgathered/torchmade of some type.
  15. Sure, on the opposite 'pole' from pic #2, there should be evidence of a hand gathered 'nine' pattern (might have been lost in the white). In a nutshell: as the glass is gathered, a 'nine' pattern wraps around the marble before reducing to a 'tail' at the cut-off. Sometimes the tail will run across the existing pattern, which is what I'm seeing here.
  16. Don't know what happened to the post #'s (so I could say in post # __ ), but anyhow: the green and white one looks like it's a hand-gathered transitional, with a tail
  17. See if this works: Akro patches 7 Alley/Unknown Akro Old German w/ faceted pontils
  18. I'd wager the mass production of the items probably lent little time/desire to 'fiddle around with the machinery' and specifically tweak the patterns Where the neat patterns/value came into play, would be on the schoolyard, or trading marbles. Back in my day (geez I'm starting to sound like and old man) a cool pattern/color was more desirable than a plain(er) type even from the same manufacturer. Hence, some of the nice pattern ones were damaged because they saw a lot of action as some kids favorite. But I'd estimate 1/100 or even 1/1000 from some manufacturers really stood out compared to their more generic counterparts.
  19. This is an awesome looking marble, damage and all. Thanks for posting it again.
  20. Yeah, I'll just stand this one out. Good question and I'm sure the members here can point the way
  21. Lol, my first thought was Pelt before even reading the comments. Although looking at it more starting to wonder if Maybe Kokomo (the bright red) or else Foreign (mainly due to colors and base glass). I think Winnie posted some that kind of looked like Pelt with a similar base glass.
  22. that's awesome. It's like the gift that keeps on giving and you got to enjoy it in the meantime. I now have plans for the coffee table my wife got...
