  1. That's a lot of holes, did they miss one on the right side where the knot is? or maybe part of the game. Cool find
  2. 'Wales' maybe, lol? You've tried a UV light on the cardboard to see if the writing is more visible?
  3. I'd wager Jabo as well, based on the pattern and colors. Too much translucence than you'd expect from a Pelt
  4. Agreed, thanks for the insight Alan, interesting discussion. Fantastic marbles pictured. I don't doubt that Sulphides were made in Germany (sorry if you interpreted that out of my post). But it would seem that carving a detailed wooden mold, casting clay in that mold, and making a two part marble would take a bit longer than melting glass? And if there were places that were skilled with the technique they'd have a competitive edge. Kind of like how they don't make Ford and Chevy at the same plant (respectfully, of course)
  5. Interesting point, but the basic resources for a Sulphide marble would be a lot different no? Molding, inserting, etc. ? Having several lines might explain that but if one 'hut' got good at doing something you'd think they'd get the orders and specialize on what they're good at. Just throwing it out there
  6. So then I started thinking a bit more about when stickers would have been used for price tags. Sure it wasn't a postage stamp there instead?
  7. did I miss the size? Sometimes you can do the old charcoal-rub-on-paper if the pencil impression is deep enough.
  8. I've heard about a handmade with provenance passed down through generations from the original maker. One of the guys around probably recalls more about that item than I do at the moment. Side-note and complete speculation on my part, but I imagine that if a 'hut' was set up for making Sulphides (for example) the technique and layout would be different than the rest of the other cane cut German handmades. And if they got good at Sulphides, I can't see switching everything up to make Latticino's the following day. Raw materials (glass quality, colors, tools etc) and skill level with the patterns might also be a way to narrow things down slightly Probably a lot of tribal knowledge being passed along as well. Nice Onionskin btw
  9. If there is a hand gathered, handmade, or cane cut marble like the one 4th one above I've never seen another like it...
  10. Size? 3rd pic down (to me) shows a tail from center towards 3 o'clock but everything looks different under water
  11. Very nice. I didn't think much of Mica's when I first got into marbles, but I've come around a bit and they certainly have eye appeal with that group.
  12. lol the white/yellow/green wirepull reminds me of the colors seen in a Akro Popeye (obviously it's not) but a stunner nonetheless
  13. Winnie can probably chime in more but I've not seen Euro marbles that look quite like these. Akro usually gets fingered for red slags but usually expect more orange tones like the last pic.
  14. I'd definitely go Pelt Zebra's on the first two, possibly a blue Zebra on the third one (based on pics).
  15. Big blue going the wrong way. I think that's what you mean, right?
  16. Nice find, wonder how the buckle ended up in there? Does it say "pat app for" of the left (kind of shaded) I'd guess older than 50's on the buckle and agree the pieces look like the glass you'd see in a Rainbo.
  17. Sorry to hear, Steph. My thoughts are with you and your Family.
  18. I know, I know but there is a marble run @ 1:40 hoo hoo
  19. Lol, I'm a few hours away from them until the weekend. They were approx 5/8"... what's the size of this guy?
  20. Wow, that's terrible news. His input on transitional/slag/'Canadian' marbles was helpful to me in many instances. Nice guy.
  21. I was sorting through a few "newer-looking" marbles and there were a couple that reminded me of this I set aside to take pictures of, but then never did.
