  1. AWD is nice to have when it's new but can get expensive if repairs are eventually needed. Could almost get a new car (or a bunch of awesome marbles) for that price. Good Luck
  2. I've got some of those sparklers (but without the advertising) I think they are over an inch, is that the same size as the Ajax/Bonux ones?
  3. Well, Akro Corkscrews could pass some time spinning them around. In a straight up "alone on a desert island" scenario it would make sense to go with a nice quality clearie and use it as a magnifying glass to fry some ants.
  4. That is pretty cool, 1,200 games over 4 days is a lot for any tournament! Plus, can't go wrong with the $2k scholarship and wherever else it goes.
  5. Would Flints not be hand ground Agates? Just throwing it out there. When I think of flint, I think of stone, stone marbles = agates? Various sizes, labor intensive, desirable by kids, expensive. Not saying CA made them (or the polished clay marbles for that matter), could have been some sort of side deal.
  6. Would this have been part of a box set at one point? Seems like most of the CAC original boxes (from the books) were all the same size, Guineas, Cobras, etc. Wondering if they did a graduated size box (ie: like Akro sometimes did) or if there was a whole box of CAC's of this size/type. Which would be phenomenal by the way.
  7. might be easier to tell in hand (the pics look a bit too zoomed in on my monitor) but I would guess West Virginia Swirl (probably Alley)
  8. Did Vacor make a blue and pink like middle of 2nd last picture? Or is that Alley? Not up on my Vacors. For a couple hour drive would it be too far out of the question for the seller to take a couple pics of the marbles out of the jar?
  9. Very true. We all start somewhere, and a lot of people here myself included had the same question at some point. I seem to recall an oxblood specific thread on this board. Someone might beat me to it but there were some pretty good examples for reference at the time.
  10. All look great but I'd be partial to the one on the bottom left
  11. I only have a handful of contemporary marbles in my collection. Fritz Lauenstein was one of the first. Followed by Mike Barton (fellow member on this board). I like the look of Bill Murray marbles but haven't secured one yet
  12. Looks like an Akro, Silver Oxblood. Nice pics
  13. Pretty sure it's a dark green translucent 6-finger type.
  14. Banded opaque on the left and banded transparent on the right
  15. When it comes to two color corks, I believe it is one of the more desirable combos. At least to me anyways, and I've been looking for a while.
  16. Sad news indeed. I appreciated his sense of humor and skill at "mending" old marbles.
  17. Cool find. Under a floor makes me wonder what else might have been under any floor in some of the old houses I lived in, lol. Agree that it's an old German onionskin. Sometimes the clear base has filaments of colored glass running through the middle from pole to pole and that's likely what you're seeing.
  18. Ric, I can only hope that support from our marble community can assist you in thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
  19. looks vintage to me, and the surface isn't as nice (smooth) as what you'd expect after polishing, but seeing a couple pics on a computer is much different than having it in hand.
  20. Agree on the above. At one point there was a good reference guide/pic on the site that showed different styles of pontils (or cutoffs) on marbles like this. The one on the right is a less common color compared to most of the other ones I've seen.
  21. lol, Ron and I were thinking the same thing at the same time. I should go buy a lottery ticket!
  22. Yeah, that's another can of worms. Some of the opaque Indians with a black base appear a deep "translucent" purple base when you shine a light through. If it's clearly translucent without strong light (like your pic) I would consider it to be something other than the Indian category, but that's just my opinion
  23. Size can sometimes be a way, along with color. A pontil or prominent cut-off can also help narrow things down. Anything beyond that is a bit of a crapshoot
  24. If they made slags in that size it would make sense that other styles could also be made (although I can't say I've seen any) Did the eBay link get updated? It's now saying 41/64 and mimic art glass in the title. Don't remember if it was like that before
