Yes, seeds on the left, small clay marbles on the right. Clays called "commies" because they were "common".

A golden age. The Great Depression, but a wonderful time for marbles.

Coolness. Now where did I hide my Alley book? Of course, I didn't doubt it was Alley. Just wondered how many other people were in on the secret ... and would be beating down your door for it!

They're seeds. And they're marbles. And now I have some. Many years ago I saw Jane Gillings' webpage about them and wrote to her and learned a thing or two. And then she offered to send me some. And I shyly said no. But recently I really wished I had some so I wrote her and asked if she still had them, and long story short, I have these cute marbles and a happy memory. I photographed them next to commies for comparison. The commies are little heavier, but the quandongs are heavier than I thought they would be. I shot one across the sheet I had out for the photo and it traveled pretty well. You could have a good game with these.

I signed up for a fantasy league -- just to be sociable -- but that means I'll be caring about game results whether I want to or not. hehe

My backyard birds and I have each other trained. They have me frisbee-ing bread out to them at 8 in the morning, and this morning they flew down to it promptly and they stuck around to eat even when I clicked the window screen shut. (When we started this feeding ritual, that particular noise used to make them disperse briefly.)

I used to collect owls when I was a kid. Never thought until just now about how I should add this to my old collection.

Never been good at my own pop culture, but I adore retro pop culture.

My mother's heart stopped right after she had my baby brother. She had an out-of-body experience, watching her body, watching the people leaving the room, watching someone finally notice what happened and then rushing back to resuscitate her. In our family discussions we spoke of that as her dying. Not to get all serious and all
