  1. Since i received the sad news,i had to stay busy and it was hard to turn the computer on and read it,until now. I am like Griff,i was at a loss. I was a lucky one who did get to spend some precious time with Weldon at Jabo, the shows, and his home. We talked about everything, hunting, work, grandchildren, etc, marbles and of course his marble bag collection. I just mailed him a mesh bag the day before the accident. There is not enough space or time here to say everything. Rest in PEACE Weldon,i know you are. Edna, you take CARE of yourself, the days ahead are going to be long. A speedy recovery for Edna and Joseph. My condolence goes out to the entire family. Ron
  2. Sure will miss Andy and Trudy at the shows !!!!!!!!
  3. Any flyers or information date, etc. for the Sistersville show for 2010 ?
  4. Hope you had a nice special day,HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
  5. I saw the pictures of those, and almost made the drive, also about 6hrs. But i had other things come up. Now,no doubts that i would have liked to been there. Good catch!
  6. A great time,a great gang. More wonderful memories, and a bonus, nice marbles. Some with SPRINKLES.
  7. Striking !!!!! I am sure it was warm. We are waiting for the bottom or the others..
  8. THANK YOU ! You don't get enough gratitude.
  9. Hi Windy ! I had a few shares in this run. Glad to see the pictures,i wasn't sure that we would. I will definately hang onto my Jumbo's,not for sale. Thank You Windy
  10. Most of what i have seen were also a green and some other color, usually blue. I knew that there were more out there, and i am sure there is a lot more that we have not seen yet. But now after this post maybe we will. Maybe we should call it gold aventurine,if lutz is for old handmades only.
  11. Yes,selenium is in recipes of Mr.Alley. We are going to get to the bottom of this yet. Is this reaction very rare,or why has it not occurred in more machine made marbles ? Would it only be in one marble ?
  12. I never said it was actual gold. It looks like what most call gold lutz. For me,it is closer to gold color than common copper. It is probably copper. Some descriptions for lutz is,goldstone,or finely ground copper, that looks and reflects like gold in glass. This to me looks even more gold color than much of the so called gold lutz used at Jabo the last couple years. I agree that it looks to me,like it came from inside the tank. The gold colored material follows the swirl stripe pattern. This is the first Alley white/red one that i have seen,as of today. But,i will be looking and i hope others do also.
  13. Late but a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Did he bring out his swirl boxes for you? I cannot remember the count but,i know that i looked at boxes of swirls for hours. Willie was one of the many highlights of my trip to TX. He did part with one large Alley to come back to WV. Looking forward to the next time Willie.
  15. Ann ,those are very limited. There is this color or type and another color combo. This is the second time(which i know of)that this material has been used at Jabo on machine made marbles. Dave McCullogh did it late last summer on smaller standard size marbles and now Griff has included it in the 3/4 size. It is dichroic now used by many comtemporary marble makers. Sprinkles may shed some more details on this. Where are those pictures of Sprinkles at work?
  16. Thanks to Triker, that i have the blue ox. Thank You Bruce, for the heads up,grabbing me several times by the arm and getting me in his room. Is that Triker marble safe?
  17. Gail is correct that arrowhead display was awesome. I wish that i had my camera when he showed it to me. He was from Pitts PA. My four grandkids have already rolled a lot of marbles down that ox. Probably more use than it previously had. I had to put it up out of reach of the two year old. Don't forget we are about the same age,my memory is going, just like everything else,LOL. But i still have my marbles.
  18. THANK YOU to each and every member of the armed forces, past and present. I also recently visited Washington DC once again. I have visited most or all of the monumnets a few times. A friend and relative of mine was a Honor Guard for many years at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Each visit to Washington has reminded me of the sacrifices made by so many. During the last visit,i reached the Vietnam memorial wall about sundown. I noticed a man wearing white gloves and in his left hand was a bundle of long stem red roses. In his right hand was a small piece of paper. It was his guide for finding particular names on the wall. As he found each name,he come to full attention, heels clicked, gave a slow perfect salute. Then down on one knee he placed a rose at the base. Then after a long pause he would move on to the next. It was long after dark as i was leaving the memorial. He was still looking at his list and moving his way along the wall to complete his task.
  19. Steve,i hope everything is still ok for your son. Wishing him the best over there. Anything new?
  20. I also have boxed it all up,put it away out of sight and went ahead with other things. IT HELPS,and afterwards i had made the correct decision with advice from friends. I still get in the same positions, but now instead of all the work boxing it up,i just close the doors and leave them closed for a time. Maybe someday,i will leave marbles completely but i do not want to regret it afterwards. In the past,i had to give up(sell)marble items that i will never be able to replace in my lifetime. So,BE SURE,of yourself, weigh ALL options. If it is no longer fun and enjoyment, maybe it is time, but give it time first. Life is short,if at all possible,do what makes you happy. GOOD LUCK Bill.
  21. I missed something again,i thought the article said first half of the 20th century. I am sure that i have missed many of those companies marbles but i have trouble finding them or identifing them. To technical for me. I cannot keep up with the glass ones. Marbles are taking a way too much of my time the way it is. When it is work, arguments, and not fun,i have other priorities.
