The "Score!" thread. Post your exciting finds here...

I went to buy old books yesterday from a private party when I spotted a coffee can full of marbles mostly from 60s/70s with lots of bright Vitro Agates. He let my cherry pick 10 or so, and said that was just 1/3 of the collection. He'll be contacting me when he pulls the rest.

Here's some of the better ones for under a dollar each, taken by my trademark $1500 camera and lens combo that always looks like a 1990s web cam photo when I take photos of marbles. 😜

Well I did find some sweet stuff today going down to Pennsboro, been getting super lucky lately with Akro ashtrays. Got all of these today down there. And visited the Champion marble factory site, there is literally marbles all over the public roads and sidewalks down there, found a couple nice swirls just on the sidewalk. Man how I would love to dig there. It’s a shame the factory is literally falling apart though, the roof is gone on the original factory and it doesn’t look like it will be standing much longer unfortunately. Seeing as it’s basically the last abandoned marble factory left, I sure wish someone would step in and preserve it. Maybe make it a museum for all of the marble history of West Virginia or something.

I have gotten a bunch of marbles this week. I posted some pics a couple of days ago. Yesterday I did a trade for a bunch of stuff I got at yard sales for just that purpose. I got about 75 or so mibs. Here are some of the better (cleaner) ones. Of this group 3 went into the display case, I only had to take 2 out (the popeye replaced a nearly identical one with a fleabite). The rest got separated into my various jars. Thanks

Bruce

I just had another incredible score and at a price that I will prob never see again. Was able to go through an older guys collection that he was getting rid of. He didn’t know much about marbles but he sure had some killers and these are the ones I picked out.

Among the best are 2 Indians, a rare teal solid core lutz, 2 absolutely stunning CACs, a very rare blue Leighton marble, a huge Pelt NLR, a nice Ravenswood special and a ton of other great marbles.

Wow! That person had an eye for marbles! Nice score! Your collection is not complete!😝

It’ll never be complete and I’ve only been at this hardcore for about 2 years. I can’t imagine what my collection will be like in a few more years, I’ll have to buy a second house to store it all… Until I can win the lottery or find a mafia bag full of millions under an abandoned house and can afford to buy a historic building in north central West Virginia and start the worlds greatest most modern marble museum lol.

On that note, I’ve always wondered where would be the best place for a marble museum. Probably not Clarksburg or anywhere else in WV as it doesn’t have the population to support it. I’ve always thought the best place for a marble museum would be Cleveland or Pittsburgh as those cities have the tourism and money to support a very nice marble museum and are only a couple of hours away from where most of the vintage/antique marbles were made in America.

I almost had the "older gentleman" luck a couple weeks ago....a coworker in maintenance said his father had a ton of old marbles that he kept in old bank bags in the attic and that he would check into it for me. 2 days later, he informed me that his uncle had bought them 😐 Oh well, but great score for ya! 👍

New York is definitely out of the picture for a marble museum. Taxes are too high. Darn. How's a neighboring state? Maybe Pennsylvania near the Zippo lighter museum. Then people can make two stops. 😉 (And it's close to NY.--self-interest is showing.😝)

I finally scored some mibs today but have to wait till Wednesday to pick them up, I know kind of a cruel teaser. One thing I will say, there is a goodly amount of diversity, some very low value and some so so. Now the "Tension builds"  (yeah right) tension headache maybe, regardless I'll be back in 2 days with my booty, sad though it may be still a score around a dry county like this one.  :character-smileys-238:  ..........  :icon_popcorn:

I’ve got a meeting on the 14th for a potential score, no pics as too many to photo, according to the seller🤔. 10days of “what ifing”…🤯
