  1. People are visual. It helps to have a name to refer too than just teling someone a color combination. The hardest part is to match the names across the board. Here are 2 very rare pelts. The first one people on the east coast call it a Green Galay. On the west coast it's called a Green Rebel. It doesnt fit into a galaxy description. The base is white. Not green. The only difference between it and a Rebel is that a rebel has red ribbons. This has green ribbons. Hence the name Green Rebel. The second one goes by 3 different names. On the East coast it's called a Gecko. It's also called a Flaming Dagon with aventurine. The third name is what it should be, if you go by descriptions of other already established names. It's true name should be Green Galaxy. It's base is green with red/yellow ribbons and black aventurine ribbons. So, the name game does have pitfalls. I know the members of NHA club are thrilled about that.
  2. This was why some cosignors went to see Alan before his passing.
  3. Glass is the same? I feel tickling on my back side. Scott, you as an artist know that saying glass is glass isnt the same. "davis = jabo = matthews" It's not the same. For sake of the discussion making the materials, work area, kiln, etc the same it falls on the skills of the artist. Matthews is all precise symetry. Davis, Beetem, Seese etc. They all have different skills. Different looks. M!B$ is right that it can look mechanical but it still is what his followers expect of Matthews.
  4. Matthews is all about precision. Others have come close and can make a good copy but still not quite as good.
  5. This one isnt even a very good fake. Everything is wrong about it. No seams, color wrong, and pattern. The seller is trying to cya by saying you decide. It means he knows but I'll still reimburse you even postage. Too bad who ever wins it will have to go thru the trouble of that.
  6. You are correct. The value is there. I have seen blue devils sell 2-2.5K. The only issue was that if the other was a red divil. Blue devils and red devils are same pattern and same base. Only difference is that one is blue the other red.
  7. Only partial. Now it's a possibilty that bidders may think there is an alliance/connection with the board. It can be a blessing though that if bidders do a search they will find the board and learn just what kind of people they really are.
  8. Your not missing anything. The bidder though will be missing more though.
  9. Mark is adding the juce. Hammer + 20%. Blue devil 1680. Red devil 1800 + 20%=4176, not counting shipping. Nobody is jealous nor and definetly not trying to ruin your day. Just giving our opinion on differences of what you have. Just look at the contruction, base color and pattern. They are different. You can see it is even in both Morphy's pictures and yours. The beauty and value is still there. Just not the correct names.
  10. Very nice marbles. Though I do have to agree with Galen. I have seen examples of both red and blue devils. The contruction, pattern and color scheme are the same. Only difference is the base color. One red. One blue.
  11. This one recently sold on ebay for $36.74. It was 1". Euro sparks are not that easy to find. When I find them they usually come in groups. Not individually. Some times Euro sparks are mistaken for Akro.
  12. Looking at the pic again it does show that. Thank you. Now I need to find one.
  13. Yes, sorry Ric. You are wrong. The Claudia's are the orange/blue. They come in both patch and cork scew. Jolly Rogere's majority are patchs. I am looking for the cork style. The pic I put up isnt mine. Wish it was.
  14. LOL I am Burt. Cant I look for both? That one looks very nice. It looks like it would go well with, maybe a Blue Panther? Need the Akro for my Akro part. Galen, I already have one of yours. Nice one though.
  15. This Akro is similar to an Akro Jolly Roger. Instead of patch it's a cork screw. Red and yellow cork with aventurine in the yellow.
  16. They are actually pretty round. No more so than some moden 20th century marbles. I do have a different one made with same overlay style but flat on both poles. Defenitely that one would have been a bead as I have a whole string on smaller scale. To call mine a holeless bead would be same as calling Jeroen's a bead as well.
  17. Here are some more. The first pic is from Bert Cohen. The second and third pics are my own marbles. The multi colored one has color rods "pushed" thru the glass. The second the green and the yellow are overlaid on the glass. The design are 2 snakes. It took me years bugging the ancient artifact dealers I know before one finally came up with these two. It's easy to get glass beads from that time period. Enjoy. Go ahead and take my pics for future reference. They are good teaching tools.
  18. I have 3 bruisers. 1 amber based, 1 green based and 1 green based with matalic. The metalic ones are definately in the hard to find category. Bruisers themselves are not as hard to find. You do see them come up for sale every couple months. Waiting to find a nice one would just require a little patience. As to the ratio between between green vs. amber? I would say there are more green based ones. Vacor did make a version of this type.
